Sure, Bertha was fun, but yesterday was twice as good, and with much less hype. It's not often you find the combination of head-overhead hollow pits and light offshore winds during the middle of August. From sunrise to sunset, NJ absolutely went off, with many surfers claiming the best swell since the Spring.
Fun sized medium period swell from Hurricane Bertha lit up the East Coast all day on Wednesday August 6th. While not huge, most spots in the mid-Atlantic saw chest-head high surf with occasional overhead sets. Warm water and light winds made it a great day of surfing.
