SEA Paddle NYC Returns For Eight Year

The Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA), headquartered here, celebrated its eighth annual SEA Paddle NYC around Manhattan with clear skies and a large group of excited paddlers stoked to hit the waters around NYC.  To date, this year’s event has raised $120,000 to be given to SEA’s beneficiaries.

On Aug. 11, SEA Paddle NYC hosted its 25-mile charity paddle.  The SEA Paddle NYC, which includes an elite race for cash prizes, kicked off at the Brooklyn Bridge Beach with Paddlers, or Teams, each raising a minimum of $1,000 for the Paddle’s beneficiaries.  This year’s beneficiaries include POAC, Autism Family Services of New Jersey, Surfers Healing, Best Day Foundation, Tommie Cares Foundation, Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation and Surfers For Autism. In addition to supporting those with autism, SEA Paddle NYC will also benefit the Alliance’s environmental efforts in the area.

A special SEA Paddle Fan Tour Bus, sponsored by Spiked Seltzer, followed our paddlers on land stopping at strategic points around Manhattan.  The SEA Paddle Fans cheered our athletes along the way and helped guide them to the finish line.  It made quite a statement around NYC!

Actor and avid paddler David Chokachi has completed the SEA Paddle NYC in years past and participated this year.  He says, “All three times were super unique, extremely challenging, and unbelievably rewarding. Most importantly, I feel like I have made a difference, by raising awareness for the preservation of our oceans, and also in knowing that I can physically and mentally accomplish this great challenge of circumnavigating the island of Manhattan on a stand up paddle board.”

SEA Paddle NYC is proudly supported by Faherty Brand, Vita Coco, Stoke Stand Up Paddle Radio, Chelsea Piers, TheSurfersView.com, Spiked Seltzer and Rhizotomy Surf.
