Surf Forecast Summary
5/17/12
More waves on the way as this consistent stretch of surf remains alive and well! The current SSE windswell/E groundswell has produced super rippable waist to chest high waves these past couple of days with the help of light winds and great timed tides! As we approach the end of this week into the weekend, it seems that there should be a bump in the water every day for the beaches of NY/NJ! For Thursday, we will wake up to waves in the waist to stomach high range from the fading SE windswell, with very favorable conditions for most S/SE facing beaches, which means Long Island should be firing! Moderate N winds @ 10-15kt will groom the ocean surface and make a wonderful playground for all of those lucky enough to enjoy the day at the beach. Conditions will be less fair for many beaches of NJ, with the exception of southern spots (hint…hint…) as these N winds will create a sideshore texture producing a textured chop. Conditions remain fair for the morning Friday for standout beaches in NY, but will continue to be not so fair for the beaches of NJ. The best time to surf these thigh to waist high waves will be early in the morning as the winds will be moderate from the NNE @ 10-15kt, with ENE winds projected to follow during the second portion of the day slopping things up a bit. For Saturday, a SE short period picks the waves back up into the waist to stomach high + range, accompanied by favorably light N winds @ 5kt, picking up a tad throughout the day. Again, the waves should be better for beaches in the Long Island region, but are worth keeping an eye on anywhere in NJ throughout the day. If you’re all surfed out and can’t figure out what to do with your Saturday, head over to Asbury and join the ten thousand + crowd for the Bamboozle Festival! Even if you don’t have a ticket, the bars should be popping off all day/night! The conditions finally groom out completely on Sunday for the ever so patient NJ surfers as the winds are projected to become W @ 5-10kt, with fun thigh to waist high waves to play around on! This has to be the longest stretch of waves we’ve had in the water for our region in a very long time! Be sure to hop in the water at some point and have yourself some fun!
