Was it the best swell New Jersey has had this year? Ben Gravy sure thought so, and judging by the size and quality of the waves it’s hard to argue with him!
Absolutely solid clean surf pounded the Jersey Shore on April 19th 2022, and hopefully you were lucky to be out there getting some. But this swell wasn’t really expected to be quite as big and perfect as it turned out to be. It was a real surprise for many NJ surfers, who only found out when they rocked up to the beach at the crack of dawn.
A spring Nor’easter that delivered the goods just before the summer really kicks in and the long flat spells begins. It’s a rare thing, with the swell size and direction syncing up just right with the right wind and tides.
Here’s a round up of videos from the day, filmed across the state and featuring some of NJ’s best surfers, along with some lesser known ones too!
New Jersey Surfing: After-Easter Barrel Hunt
Steve Houser was on the beach down at Bay Head to capture the action happening along this stretch of NJ coastline. Plenty of barrels to be had, but not everyone making it out!
Best Swell of the Year in New Jersey!
Well overhead waves and stiff offshores holding open those barrels for Ben Gravy to get slotted into! Tube after tube in this video, with appearances from Gilly, Tommy Inkhen, and Jude Clark.
Surprise Swell Goes Off! Pumping New Jersey Surf in April?!
Haven’t seen much from on the Numbskulls channel recently, but no wonder they dropped a fresh video right after this swell! Rob Kelly, Sam Hammer, Pat Schmidt and a whole bunch of other New Jersey surfers are all over it in this edit.
New Jersey Surprise Spring Surf (Extra Raw Footage)
What was happening over at Point Pleasant Beach? Here’s what! Bubba Surfs recorded the video so we could all get a look at the waves breaking close to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk.
And that’s all we got for you right now, but if you have a video to share add it in the comments below!
