The Clif Cold Shot Challenge 2.0 is back for its sophomore year!
Bombogenesis
As if someone had flipped a switch, the Clif Cold Shot Challenge 2.0 kicked off in classic east coast fashion. Winter Storm Grayson underwent ‘bombogenesis’, a rapid drop in atmospheric pressure of at least 24 millibars in 24 hours (Grayson dropped 54mbs). As a result, the bomb cyclone delivered well overhead surf, whiteout conditions, and record coastal flooding. From novelty ‘slurpee’ waves in Nantucket, to a late day window in NY-NJ and grinding frosty barrels in North Carolina, the entire Western Atlantic Basin was pumping.

The Hunt Is On
Just a week after Grayson, Winter Storm Hunter graced the Eastern Seaboard, bringing mind-numbing temperatures and more big, clean surf with it. A fair bit of bravery and dedication was required, as temperatures dropped about 40 degrees in less than 24 hours – seeing highs in the teens with wind chills below zero. Duck-diving was brutal, to say the least. Even with challenging conditions, there has been no shortage of awesome submissions from all three regions in all three content categories, and we still have plenty of time until the end of March.
