June 30, 2013 - You may have heard that LNG, Liquified Natural Gas facilities, have again been proposed off our coast.
The Liberty Natural Gas Project, now called "Port Ambrose” has officially submitted an application for an underwater Liquefied Natural Gas terminal directly off the coasts of New York and New Jersey beaches.
The proposed project will be an export AND import facility, with recent changes in the law making no distinction between the two. The impacts that will result from this project will include accelerated and expanded hydro-fracking, as well as the potential for eco-disaster.
New Jersey's hearing is Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the NJ Convention and Exposition Center located at 97 Sunfield Avenue, Edison, NJ. There will be a open house from 4:30- 5:30pm, followed by the formal hearing from 6pm- 8pm.
Please make every effort to attend the hearing, as this will be our only opportunity to ensure that all the potential impacts, including safety, security, environmental, economic, and public health are included in the evaluation. It is no coincidence that the hearing is scheduled shortly after a holiday weekend.
