2012 Nike US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach

The Nike US Open of Surfing was held in Huntington Beach, California this past week and once again proved to be the biggest and best surfing competition in the world. This event is notorious for great surfing conditions, huge crowds and consistent waves.

This year 30 of the Top 32 surfers in the world entered to compete for this event.

While the action in the water is was guaranteed to provide plenty of entertainment, the Nike US Open of Surfing, owned and operated by IMG, a global leader in sports and entertainment, was part of a major action sports festival that included skateboarding, music, art and more.

People from all walks of life stopped by to hang in the sun, watch the surfing, music, skateboarding and participate in all of the fun stuff to do around the festival. Meanwhile, there was an amazing state-of-the-art-webcast production live on the Nike US Open of Surfing website, with full coverage of the entire event!

The Nike US Open of Surfing is the sixth of nine ASP Prime events on the 2012 calendar and plays a crucial role in surfer’s qualification campaigns to join the 2013 ASP WCT.

Congratulations to Julian Wilson on his 2012 US Open title!

Californian Lakey Peterson also claimed her 2012 US Open title as she defeated friend and Nike teammate Carissa Moore, the former world champion in the final.
