Do yourself a favor and check out East Coast Rising about NY & NJ surfers coming together in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. And remember that the shore still has a long way to go...Please do/give what you can.
Loved this look back at the fun days of 2012 by Ryan White of Evil Surf Kitties fame.
And be sure to check out his other work on Vimeo. He does good stuff of our local spots just for the heck of it.
Perfect waves at some far away destination or epic conditions at your local beach? With friends or alone? Big waves or small? Hollow death-barrels or Brazilian launch pads? The elements that make up a dream session depend on the surfer. What makes you excited is certainly not what gets Twiggy Baker’s blood going, unless you’re stoked to paddle into 30 ft. Mavericks bombs. And all your dream may consist of is a head dip and butt wiggle. But it’s your dream session and there’s no rules.
Enough Already! The act is old. Claims are fun if there's like years between 'em, but I'm pretty sure our Brazillian friends claim when they do a dry-hair paddle out.
Friggin' missed it by one day! One. Lousy. Day. Really. Swell came up for sure on Tuesday, but the ocean was a bloody mess with a heavy north wind and a wicked current (see photo above--it sucks, right?). There were a few corners to be had, but it didn't look all that enticing and I don't need to paddle for 2 hours straight.
The movie on big-wave hellman, Jay Moriarity is coming out this fall. It's even got Gerard Butler in a lead role!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've had waves for weeks, which is unheard of in and of itself in our parts. But I'm over everyone talking about how 'epic', 'perrrrrfect' and 'unreal' it's been. It hasn't. In fact, outside of the occasional decent size, it's been a lesson in just how much our coastline can close-out. And apparently that's A LOT!

Good reminder pulled from Irish big wave surfer, Al Mennie's, blog post about the ocean knowledge good surfers hold and the help that can offer to those not so adept in the big blue.
