How Kelly Slater Prepares for US Open While in Flat Summertime Florida

Kelly Slater stopped home in Florida for a quick rest before heading over to California for the Vans US Open of Surfing. As the East Coast (and especially Florida) tend to go super flat during July and August, Kelly had to find other ways to keep his top form. What he found was a wave that many of us East Coasters consider to be the best wave during July. Boat wake. @kellyslater / instagram

"No surf in FL so gotta figure out some way to warm up at home for the #VansUSOpenOfSurf. Behind the boat with @grillsseafood and @I'm_just_daniel today for a little leg burn on the @cisurfboards #MTF. #FlatAllSummerInFlorida #RedNeckSurfing"

The Vans US Open of Surfing kicks off with Men's Round 1, Monday July 28th 7:30am at the famed beachbreaks of Huntington Beach. Kelly Slater was forced to withdraw from the Vans US Open of Surfing last minute, citing an injury. He'll be replaced by Hawaiian Gavin Gillette.
