The reigning ASP champ and Oz native, Joel Parkinson, edged a win out over Brazilian, Alejo Muniz, in the the final heat of the Surfest Event with a combined wave score of 15.43 over Muniz's 12.13.

There was some stand out surfing from a few female surfers as well for the Hunter Ports Women’s Classic, which took place at the same break in Newcastle, Australia earlier the same day. Female surfer Dimity Stoyle took first in the event, with Sally Fitzgibbons and Bianca Buitendag taking second and third.

World Tour rookie, Bianca Buitendag, scored a 3rd place finish.
