In early 2022, Torren Martyn and Aiyana Powell set off on a year-long surfing and sailing expedition aboard the 35ft boat ‘Calypte’ from the east coast of Thailand to Eastern Indonesia. Despite their limited sailing experience, they planned to learn along the way, relying on friends with sailing expertise for guidance. The journey took them through the South China Sea, the Strait of Malacca, and around the tip of Sumatra into the Indian Ocean in search of waves. The seemingly idyllic adventure presented unexpected challenges, including sleepless nights, boat maintenance, breakdowns, and the confined space. However, the difficulties only added to the sweetness of their adventure.
